Abroad

What does a school for mythological creatures look like underwater? For Abroad, two key locations were developed for the International School of Mermaids: a library where ancient oceanic and land knowledge meets curiosity, and a hallway alive with the textures, colors, and symbols of the seas. Every detail was designed to make young audiences feel that this world is both fantastical and warmly familiar.
The heart of Abroad is its characters: mythological sea creatures from Finland, Mexico, and Japan, each carrying the visual language of their culture in their design. As exchange students navigating an unfamiliar school and a mystery, they needed to feel distinct and vivid. Character design balanced cultural authenticity with the warmth and expressiveness a young audience needs to follow, trust, and root for them.
